SAP SQL Anywhere: consulting, performance and migration from 15 years of personal practice

SQL Anywhere has been running in many mid-sized companies for decades – in inventory management, field service solutions, point-of-sale and embedded systems. The applications are business-critical; the knowledge around them has become rare. We have it: over 15 years of personal practice in developing, operating and migrating SQL Anywhere.

Whether you want to keep, modernise or replace the system – we advise and implement.

01

Typical problems

  • Queries slow down as data grows; indexes and statistics no longer fit.

  • MobiLink replication with conflicts, backlogs or unexplained aborts.

  • A version is reaching end of life and nobody dares to upgrade.

  • The vendor of the business application is no longer reachable, but the system has to keep running.

  • Migration to SQL Server is due – with procedures, triggers and quirks that don't transfer 1:1.

Services around SQL Anywhere

01

Performance tuning

Reading execution plans, index strategy, statistics, server parameters, locking – measured, not guessed. Usually without changing the application.

02

MobiLink

Design, stabilise and monitor replication; conflict rules, scripts, synchronisation windows.

03

Upgrades and operations

Plan and carry out version changes, backup, recovery and high-availability concepts, permissions.

04

Migration to SQL Server

Data types, T-SQL differences, procedures and triggers, replacing replication – with test migration, reconciliation and a way back. We tell you beforehand whether migration makes sense.

05

Further development

New interfaces and applications on your existing SQL Anywhere base – REST APIs, reporting, connection to cloud services.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is tuning still worth it, or should we migrate?

Tuning is usually worth it first: the most common brakes are indexes and statistics, not the database. We recommend migration when end of life, licensing or the application landscape demand it – and tell you after a measurement.

Which versions do you support?

From SQL Anywhere 9 to the current 17 releases; upgrades across several versions are planned with intermediate steps.

Do you work with the vendor of our application?

Gladly – and if the vendor no longer exists, we work with what is there: schema, procedures, application code.

How fast can you help?

For acute performance or replication problems, depending on our workload, often within a few working days, remotely.
